About Us
The Sam Houston Southwest Film Investment Fund (SHSWFIF) is set up as a Texas LLC and has members that have pledged a specific level of investment into the development of full feature films, television series and documentaries.
The Fund is chartered to: promote the filmmaking in the Southwest region of the US, attempting to maximize the infrastructure present; invest in new infrastructure where needed; utilize and develop local creative talent. All of these objectives are associated with a reasonable return on investment. Funding is managed as a portfolio, but funded on the merits of each script and individual project.
The current funding capacity is around 120 Million dollars. The Sam Houston SW Film Investment Fund is one of the few funds in North America that is an active member of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences.
Our business objectives also serve to improve local employment in the region and the redeployment of idle assets that could support a new “movie studio” complex. The team members of this company are all involved in the planning, operation and ownership of the new Studio. Some are advisors and some are equity holders. The physical facility size and design will be state of the art, and rated as the largest and the most modern in the world. Current sites under consideration are Dallas, Houston, Austin and San Antonio. Lobbying efforts are currently underway with Texas Motion Picture Alliance (TXMPA) in conjuction with the Texas law firm of Baker Botts to reinstate the $185 million Texas Moving Image Industry Rebate of 29%.
